One of my favorite aspects of horse racing is the post parade - jockeys in their silks take their mount and parade the horses to the gate. Here spectators get one final look at the horses, wondering if they made the right choice. Have they picked a winner? The anticipation is intoxicating.
Below on the track some horses prance with their heads high confidently predicting victory, some side step and struggle tugging at the reins to be set free and others enter with laser focus of the finish line.
If you think about it, the act of dating is not much different. There is a human call to post and for many it is marriage. We get all dressed up in our most appealing attire make ourselves all shiny and grand to attract bidders of a different kind - a mate. How we parade is as individual as all the thoroughbred horses. Some of us confidently, some of us are dying to break free and some know exactly what they want and go for it.
But the thing to remember is this is just the parade to the gate. Even if we scored a date, even if we made it to the finish line of love and marriage, can we say we won our hearts desire? Are we certain we have won? How we finish is entirely up to us.
