Dating Handicapping Tip #12: Jockeys - The EX Factor

"I felt a little ill when I saw all the pictures of the jockeys that were there before me."

The above is a line from the song Little Red Corvette, by the artist formally known as Prince that inspired lovers as "jockeys" It doesn't take much imagination to note the connotation. For men or women we all have to deal with loves who have been ridden before.

It doesn't matter, male or female, if you meet a great person only to realize they have been ridden hard by a bad jockey - abusive boyfriend, manipulating girlfriend or overcoming a great love. Good, or bad we’ve all had to deal with the “EX.” It can affect overall dating performance and potential great relationships.

In horse racing handicapping a good jockey cannot win on a bad horse and a bad jockey will make a good horse lose. Basically if you're a good person you can't have a good relationship with someone who has say, negative qualities. And if you’re a negative person you can bring down and destroy someone else’s esteem or reputation. There are some things to look for when handicapping a love’s previous jockeys.

1. Types of Riders – Who a person has dated says a lot about them. A man who dates unrespectable women may in turn be seen as unrespectable. And if a woman has a history of dating rich men, you may assume she is a gold digger. A good tip would be to find someone who has dated people you admire and respect. People date others of strong character and quality speaks volumes of their character.

2. Winning Rides – A friend once said to me, “You want a man who has been in love before.” We all want to find that one and only, but like with jobs or sports we want a lover with experience. It is important to find a lover who had success in a relationship because you can rest assured they have the knowledge to work at relationships.

3. Quantity of Riders – The scariest thing for anyone is to walk into a stable where many jockeys once rode. It is enough to make the most confident insecure. How do you measure up to the masses? How can you be sure you’ll make the grade and not become just a number?

Waging on past jockeys is a bit of a balancing act. There are so many variables to consider, but they do give you clues to how your date feels about you and themselves. Remember, we always carry with us our previous relationships in our heart. The key is to always look forward, but have one eye on the past.
