Bloodlines are a popular focus of thoroughbred handicapping. Many handicappers put a lot of stock in the sires of racehorses. Bloodlines run thick.
This form of handicapping is very similar to love, dating and relationships. If you want any clues to your mate when they're older, check out their parents. Apples don't fall from the tree. Some may try to fight it. Other will disagree, but we are our parent's children and there is no denying.
How did your or mate's parents fair in love and relationships? If we are honest with ourselves our behavior is similar. But if our parents made mistakes it doesn't mean we have to make the same. It means we have the great benefit of learning from them. Our parents can teach us a lot about ourselves.
Genes and aging. Let's face it DNA is unfair, but it doesn't have to profile the future. Despite genes we are all individually responsible for our bodies. We are not trapped in our parent’s bodies. For example: If we know we have to weight gain, we can take precautions and maintain a healthier living style.
Handicapping is never absolute in any of its factors, especially pedigree. What it does however is paint a picture of probabilities if people do not learn lessons of the past. We can never deny we carry parts of our parents with us. The best thing to do is assert our parent’s most admirable qualities with our own.
